born in the high north of germany and now a berlin resident, ralf schmidt aka aera first appeared on the electronic music map when he established his own aleph music label back in 2010. with only a handful of releases, aera was able to lay out his very own musically topography on the cutting edges between house, psychedelia and breakbeats. this colourful mix culminated on his debut album „offseason traveller” in 2013, resonating the past forty years of electronic music, which brought him the attention of a wider audience as well as fellow djs and producers. so it was a logical consequence that his talent also attracted other labels and lead to widely praised releases on innervisions, maeve or john talabot’s hivern discs. with these, aera’s sound bloomed further into bubbly acid and trancey territorries and his fine reputation as a singular producer, travelling dj and remixer flourished. with „the sound path” aera continues his musical travels and permanent vacation is gladly hitchhiking on that ride. his second album is the most coherent and definitely most personal work to date. here, he has perfected his sound even further - adding nuances from the meadows of new age, kraut cliffs and high-flying kites of ambient. complete with the cinematic and nature-esque qualities of ralf’s music, it will draw you in deeply through a great variety of landscapes before your inner eye. however, you’ll never lose track, because this path is beautifully illuminated.

kodiak bachine is a multidisciplinary artist and one of the truly pioneers of electronic music in brazil. he first formed in 1980 the legendary band agentss considered to be the very first brazilian electronic group. in 1982 he composed and recorded -eletricidade- with the use of a minimoog model d, moog liberation, crumar string ensemble and vocoder. this track could be considered as the first techno-pop in brazil. it was also used on a video-art awarded by different festivals. -espirito das maquinas- is a re-version created the same year.

what if music had no beginning, no end? can music exist for itself or of itself, without structure constraining it, defining it? can music be non-linear, non-narrative, simply experiential, existential? the second full-length album on mysteries of the deep, musica enterrada from portland’s william selman, neither answers these questions nor supposes them. but in listening, one can’t help but wonder: what if i disappeared into this record forever? in another time and place, william selman was known as warmdesk, an alias through which he issued a series of sharply precise minimal techno records. in recent past, selman shifted gears, shedding the dynamics of tension and release that characterized his previous alias output. under his own name, selman began releasing process-oriented, freeform experimental music on cassette-focused outlets like digitalis and hausu mountain. now comes musica enterrada, a diaphanous, weightless musical vision not unlike the theoretical square root of grm and popol vuhs early electronic forays. split into six tracks across two sides of vinyl, musica enterrada bubbles, churns, drifts, and dozes. dulcet tones pile up gently like waves on shore. patterns repeat and reconfigure, as if heard from different angles. rhythms appear, shift the frame, then disappear, into the ether whence they came. play musica enterrada on repeat. and if you disappear into it, fret not you have drifted into solace.

biosphere is the main recording name of geir jenssen, a norwegian musician who has released a notable catalogue of ambient electronic music. he is well known for his works on ambient techno and arctic themed pieces, his use of music loops, and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. his 1997 album substrata was voted by the users of the hyperreal website in 2001 as the best all-time classic ambient album. the hilvarenbeek recordings are based on field recordings from the dutch farm biologische boerderij t schop in hilvarenbeek. the work was commissioned by incubate festival in tilburg.

emotional rescue delves deep in to the past with the release of the first ever recordings by uk post-industrial, ambient pioneers o yuki conjugate (oyc). recorded in nottingham in 1983, the ep s four tracks showcase oyc s early sound: a beat-driven, lo-fi that places them alongside the early british electronic pioneers.

sascha borchardt (a.k.a monoloc) will start a label, unterland, with a new ep.
the label will serve as a vehicle through which the german producer takes a step away from the club environment by presenting new sonic interpretations, including experimental, minimalist, and atmospheric. material will come from monoloc himself and friends, and the focus will be on “dramatic” sounds with drone and noise influences. think movie soundtracks and film music, albeit with both feet planted in the electronic genre. each release will aim to “tell a story” through 8 to 10 productions.
unterland will launch in end of march 2018 with a collaborative ep by monoloc and beauty of inconsequenz, a unsearchable and unidentified project with no previous recording history. the eight tracks are all based heavily on field recordings, the sound is dark and deeply atmospheric with dubstep influences. while distanced somewhat from the 4/4 format, the tracks are cerebral and hypnotic.
from there on, there will be 3-4 releases per year, each of which will be accompanied by high quality artwork as curated by borchardt, who will work closely with selected photographers and artists to provide imagery that aesthetically compliments the music.

for release #2 kontrapunkt makes a journey into different fields of electronic music. french based producer octave diesis delivers an album full of melancholic yet thoughtful neoclassical songs. the songs live mostly from the enigmatic piano melodies paired with some well-thought synthesizer sounds he composed. expect ambient environments and dramatic, soothing layers.

xen & yovav return to malka tuti in 2018 with full thrust and eyes to the future. after being responsible for the first 2 releases on the label, this time the enigmatic singer and the influential producer collaborate and deliver 2 original songs. hayom etmol is a 100% good vibe diy post-punkish poppy song with a flowing synthetic bass line, balearic guitar riffs and dreamy vocals. the b-side, shavit, is a vocal led song, with a repetitive guitar bassline and, trip guitar riffs and a minimalistic drum machine. low fi in its production shavit feels as if it has been dug out of an abandoned 80s record store in the outskirts of glasgow or amsterdam, with a strong cold wave feel to it. this 7” will be the first in a series of more diy approach to electronic music, song writing and production. some exciting names on the bill so hold on to your chairs... hayom etmol’s artwork design was made as always by morey talmor, with a printed inner sleeve designed by the israeli artist kobi swissa and a special silkscreened outer pvc sleeve.

following the acclaimed first album of al sunny released in 2017, favorite recordings proudly presents this single remix package of open up your eyes. al sunny is a young composer emerging from the french soul music scene. soon after learning the guitar, he started composing and became involved in numerous projects and collaborations. he quickly discovered deep inside himself the music that he truly loves, inspired by artists such as tim maia, america, al green, and al jarreau. during his studies he met musicians including florian pellissier, and it s then thanks to florian that he met pascal rioux, founder and a&r of favorite recordings. together they produced time to decide, a first album acclaimed by many tastemakers and gaining a solid success in japan. one of the highlights of the lp was the track open up your eyes, which disclosed the premise of al sunny music style, infused with blue-eyed-soul, pop and folk. also tainted with a funky dancefloor color, open up your eyes was a perfect match to build a nice remixes package for djs. on the a side, bruno patchworks hovart delivers again a hot soulful/disco version of the song with his famous touch. as for the b side, favorite recordings asked the canadian producer jex opolis (good timin records), with a disco style slightly more oriented in electronic and house vibes.
